Established in 2022

Minority Watch was founded in 2022, and since then, we have been steadfastly working towards our vision of a more equal and just Nigeria.

Our Mission

We defend the human rights and dignity of LGBTQI persons in Nigeria through legal representation, legal research, strategic litigation, and stakeholder engagement.

Legal Research

In-depth research is the foundation of our work. We conduct extensive legal research to understand the current landscape of LGBTQI+ rights in Nigeria.

Legal Intervention

We provide vital legal representation to LGBTQI+ individuals facing various challenges, including discrimination, violence, wrongful arrests, and human rights violations based on their sexual orientation and gender identity.

Strategic Litigation

We use strategic litigation as a powerful tool for advocacy, reshaping the legal landscape, driving societal transformation while working diligently to protect victims of human rights violations and seeking justice for any infringements of their rights, dignity, and well-being.

Stakeholder Engagement

We collaborate with government institutions, lawmakers, and human rights organizations to advocate for the repeal of discriminatory laws, the implementation of inclusive policies, and the development of legal frameworks that protect and empower LGBTQI+ individuals.

Advocacy on Gender Justice

Our advocacy extends to promoting gender justice and equality, recognizing that LGBTQI+ rights are intertwined with broader gender justice issues.

Core Values

We know that every individual is entitled to respect for the dignity of their human person and to the enjoyment of all the rights listed in Chapter Four of the Nigerian Constitution, regardless of their sexual orientation and/or gender identity.
